The obesity I suffered from caused a series of problems, among them, health, self-esteem, aesthetics, compulsive eating. And in a very special way, social (discomfort when travelling on public transport and at social events-sports and music shows-derived from the inadequate size of the seats; difficulty in obtaining clothes; consideration as a “freak” by society, even though it is accustomed to ignoring it…).

I have made all kinds of diets: all the known ones (Atkins, Montagnac, hypocaloric…) without solving my problem.

It’s been seven months since the operation and I’ve lost 29Kg (from 115,200 to 86,100).

For me, the operation has involved a series of changes:

  • Physical: radical improvement of health (control of diabetes, cholesterol, tension to normal values. All this without taking the medication I was taking before the operation.
  • Psychological: in a somewhat hyperbolic way, I could say that I have gone from “living to eat” to “eating to live” (which significantly increases the pleasure obtained from food, which was previously an obsession).
  • Dietetic: spontaneous” change of habits, not provoked, as certain foods are not appetizing (mainly fried, as well as red meat, although I have not renounced the latter, but I have decreased its intake, since the pleasure derived from its consumption is not great) and obtain great satisfaction from the intake of certain foods that I did not enjoy before (especially fish, soups and stews that I used to give up because of their very high calorie content, but which I now allow myself, faced with the obvious observation that the amount of calories is not so excessive given the small ration, think of a stew of meat with sauce, or a plate of pasta with sauce, or a paella-type rice. In the latter, I used to take them for the first course with a second: now I am unable to finish a portion of restaurant as a single course.

I would recommend this treatment without any doubt, because I have come to the conviction, especially AFTER the operation, which is the only effective way to tackle the problem of obesity, which, on the other hand, I have been absolutely amazed at the levels of penetration in society, and at increasingly earlier ages.

I cannot but repudiate the attitude of endocrine physicians, who fanatically oppose bariatric surgery, defending as a solution to obesity a dietary system that at this point is clearly not working, for corporate rather than health interests. The consequence of this is the flourishing of an “aesthetic” industry of miraculous pseudo-solutions practiced without medical intervention, which solve nothing and create many serious problems (especially, the implantation of intragastric balloons by aesthetic centers, with more economic than health motivations).
