Gastric protection diet

General dietary recommendations in the gastric protection diet

The gastric protection diet may be necessary in many cases in which the stomach has just undergone surgery, or suffers a significant or prolonged gastritis. What you are looking for is simply: 1- “Give the stomach less work” (relative rest, so that it recovers from inflammation) and 2- Avoid irritants.

  • Eating slowly and chewing food well
  • Do not overcome the feeling of satiety (Stop eating when we are full)

Delete completely:

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Chocolate
  • Alcohol
  • Spices (mostly spicy)
  • Sugar in excessive quantity
  • Vinegar
  • Very salty foods
  • Carbonated beverages
  • Tobacco

Avoid as much as possible:

  • Very fibrous meats (veal for example )
  • Very fibrous vegetables (asparagus for example)
  • Sausages in general
  • Blue fish and shellfish
  • Raw fruit (unless sugar goes up too much and there are sugar problems)
  • Very sour fruit
  • Raw vegetables that may feel bad (Lettuce; Tomato…)
  • Concentrated meat or fish broths
  • Meat extracts like “Bovril”
  • Cabbage; Broccoli and Turnips
  • Fried foods and sauces, especially acidic ones

Food allowed:

  • Meat and fish that are slightly fatty and not very fibrous (Chicken; White fish; Cooked ham…)
  • Rice, pasta, potatoes and bread
  • Vegetables easy to digest (tender beans; chard; spinach; carrot…)
  • Dairy (Milk; Yogurt; Soft cheeses)
  • Olive oil
  • Ripe fruit; Biscuits…

  • Little salt and condiments
