Video Gastric Bypass: The Gastric Bypass operation is the most used worldwide to control obesity and is the one we know best.
As shown in this video, the Gastric Bypass operation is performed by laparoscopy and consists of two parts; first the stomach is reduced in size, second a stretch of small intestine is bypassed, between 100 and 200 cm long, so that during this entire stretch of intestine food is not absorbed.
The Gastric Bypass operation achieves a smaller stomach with which the patient is satisfied after eating what fits in a dessert plate; a controlled malabsorption, part of the fats and sugars of the food that is eaten are not absorbed; in addition, there is a strong decrease in ghrelin which is a hormone that regulates appetite, because food no longer passes through the stomach as usual. This results in excellent control of exaggerated hunger and cravings.
Patients change the way they eat and their emotional relationship to food.
This operation has a great security thanks to the use of automatic systems that section and seal at the same time by means of three lines of small titanium staples and a fourth line made by means of manual points.
Finally, a watertightness test is carried out for verification.
The weight loss of our Gastric Bypass patients is 72% of excess weight and occurs between the first 6 and 11 months after the operation.
